Monnage Daydream 2020
The aim of this project is to create a folly, a building constructed purely for aesthetic enjoyment, with a focus on an innovative lighting concept. Unlike traditional buildings that serve practical purposes like providing shelter or accommodating people, follies are purely ornamental and do not have a functional role.
My primary focus of this project was on exploring the concept of contrast. I aimed to create a visual interplay between elements such as black and white, softness and hardness, cool and warm tones, as well as the distinction between day and night. By leveraging these contrasting elements, I sought to establish a dynamic and visually intriguing environment that engages and captivates the senses.

LIGHTING CONCEPT
In this space, the intentional play with contrasting elements goes beyond a mere visual aesthetic. Each contrast is carefully selected to evoke different emotional engagements for the viewers, creating a dynamic and immersive experience. The interplay between black and white, for example, can evoke feelings of sophistication and elegance when combined with clean lines and minimalistic design. Softness and hardness, when juxtaposed, offer a tactile contrast that can evoke a sense of comfort and stability combined with a touch of edginess or boldness. Cool and warm tones contribute to the overall mood and atmosphere, with cool hues instilling a sense of calmness and tranquility, while warm tones provide a cozy and inviting ambiance. Lastly, the contrast between day and night lighting can evoke entirely different emotional responses, with daylight offering a sense of energy, productivity, and freshness, while nighttime lighting creates a more intimate, relaxed, and perhaps even mysterious atmosphere. By strategically utilizing these contrasting elements, the design aims to evoke a range of emotions and engage viewers on a deeper, multi-sensory level, making the space a captivating and memorable experience.
DAYLIGHTING CONCEPT
Gentle, caressing natural light delicately embraced the ethereal breeze, gracefully illuminating the translucent surfaces and casting a tender glow upon the reflective and textured elements. As light cascaded upon the interplay of matte and glossy finishes, it gave rise to a symphony of soft and hard shadows, adding depth and dimension to the space. When it encountered the corrugated glass, a captivating dance of blurred views unfolded, adding an element of intrigue and mystery to the surroundings. Light gracefully pirouetted upon the rippling surfaces of the water, disrupting the tranquility of the daydream, as if weaving a whimsical tale of enchantment and delight.
